It’s not what you expect on your dairy journey to work.

But commuters were delayed this morning (Friday) when a herd of cows spilled on to the railway track at Weeton, disrupting services to and from stations such as Cattal.

The bovine bother lasted 90 minutes as authorities worked to clear the 12 animals from the line.

Northern Rail runs its Leeds to York service via Weeton, Harrogate and Knaresborough.

The incident was first reported at 8am, and travellers were delayed until 9.30am.

A Northern Rail spokesperson said: “The cows were moved off the line in 20 minutes, but there were residual delays.”

No injuries were reported to passengers or the cows. It is unclear if they will star at next week’s Great Yorkshire Show.
