Tips on researching family history

PEOPLE who want to delve into their family histories are being offered some top tips on how to go about it from an expert.

Ancestry in the Archives is a three-hour session for beginners, led by experienced family history tutor Jackie Depelle, at the County Record Office in Northallerton on Saturday, March 5.

The session, which begins at 10am, is suitable for absolute beginners, and will include advice on how to research family histories, the best ways of using the internet, and a run-down of the documentary material available at the Record Office.

“Finding out about your family’s roots can be one of the most interesting and rewarding of all activities, and our expert help will set you off in the right direction,” said County Coun Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member for Adult and Community Services.
