Tesco has confirmed it is “absolutely” committed to building its new Harrogate superstore, despite ditching plans for more than 100 major new developments nationwide.
The supermarket giant has hit the national newspaper headlines this week after announcing its first fall in profits in 20 years - and the scrapping of many of its planned new stores.
But, the Advertiser can reveal, it is still to press ahead with its new Skipton Road superstore.
“We absolutely want to be in Harrogate,” a spokesman said. “It’s still on.”
The store had initially been due to open by Christmas this year, but, said the spokesman, planning delays mean work hasn’t yet begun on site.
“We are still working through discharging planning conditions,” she said.
