Starbeck’s big Christmas lights switch-on was “a real community effort” on Saturday, as people of all ages came together to make the event a success.
Coun Janet Law said: “It has been a brilliant event, people have really turned out and supported it today, with flurries of people coming in for the fair all day, and it was great to see the school choir singing.”
The Christmas lights are funded every year by the Starbeck Gala and Lights Committee, and it was a proud moment for members when the button was pushed outside St Andrew’s Church by the Rev Philip Carman.
Reflecting on the day while packing up, was committee member Phill Brownley. He said: “It’s always lovely to see it all come together, and there has been a great turnout this year.
"I want to thank the business community in Starbeck for their generosity in donating raffle prizes.”
Christine Stewart, Coordinator of Starbeck in Bloom, said: “It is very important for us to keep the year going, it’s a big event in the calendar for Starbeck, and funding the Christmas lights is really important.”
Starbeck library volunteer Margaret Manning said: “It’s lovely to see local groups coming together in Starbeck, it’s a real community effort.”
