Young swimmers made waves in the pool of achievement when the Hydro held its annual Harrogate and District Swimming Development Scheme’s Colour Group Gala.
Over 350 children from all five swimming pools in the district took part in 38 events in a fun and friendly atmosphere at the Harrogate pool.
“The Hydro is an excellent venue for such an event to take place, where swimmers from across the five swimming pools in the district have the opportunity to experience the excitement of competing at such an early age,” said Schools Swimming Co-ordinator and event organiser Lynn McCrystal.
“Children as young as five years relish the chance to race and perform to the best of their ability.”
Lynn added: “The Colour Group Gala is the pinnacle of the Swimming Development Scheme and the number of entries continues to increase.
“The spectator gallery was full to capacity and the cheer and support from parents and families was tremendous.”
The gala was also treated to a spectacular diving display from Harrogate District Diving Club, whose novice divers and coaching team executed some extremely difficult dives to rapturous applause.
Lynn added: “The swimmers had a fantastic time and all participants received a Zoggs goodie bag and certificate.”
The event was attended by The Mayor of Harrogate Councillor Nick Brown, Deputy Mayor Christine Ryder, Coun Stanley Lumley Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport and Angela Lumley Mayoress of Pateley Bridge. They presented medals to third, second and first placed swimmers.
