AN INEXPERIENCED runner who set himself a challenge after being moved by an appeal has completed his effort.

Matt Hartley, 31, of College Street, Harrogate, saw an appeal in the Advertiser series for Sadie Rose Clifford.

The 23-month-old Knaresborough girl needs life-saving treatment for cancer and Matt was keen to do what he could, despite having never met her or her family.

So he challenged himself to run from Knaresborough to Harrogate - and not to shave for 50 days until he completed the run. He then had his beard shaved at the war memorial in Harrogate town centre last Saturday.

Speaking after the event, he said: “My beard run was a great success. It’s an amazing feeling to finally have a fuzz free face again.

“I completed the run in 45 mins and with the support of my friends and family we have raised a total of £668.63 for Sadie Rose Appeal.

“I would like to thank everybody who sponsored me and the Harrogate Advertiser and Stray FM for publicising and covering the event.

“Big thanks again to Louise Annat from Harrogate Health and Fitness who had the hard job of getting me into shape for the run.

“I would like to ask everybody to take a moment to look at Sadie’s cause at www.sadieroseclifford.co.uk and think about what you can do to help.

“Watch this space as me and my friends have a few more fundraising ideas for the cause coming up in the near future.”
