Staveley Stampede: the big sporting event of the year in Staveley took place on Sunday, June 16 and proved to be a very exciting race. Run in ideal conditions, the Stampede attracted a field of 138 runners with local clubs Harrogate Harriers, Knaresborough Striders and Ripon Runners well represented.

The winner in 36.24 was Franco Pardini of Valley Striders followed closely by Jonty Bright of Harrogate Harriers and Stephen Chaplin from Boroughbridge in third place. The first lady was Hannah Oldroyd of Saltaire Striders in 38.59 with Cathy Wright of Harrogate Harriers in second place and Jane McCulloch from Arkendale in third spot. The fastest finishers from Staveley or Copgrove were Dan Simmons in 46.11 and Dianne Hepplewhite in 46.59 - well done to both.

As well as the main race 36 children took part in races on the village green which they thoroughly enjoyed and all received a medal and a chocolate bar. The Stampede was well supported by Staveley residents and thanks are due to the village hall committee, helpers and marshalls for all their hard work in making the event such a big success and boosting village hall funds.

Church News: there are no services in Staveley or Copgrove this week but there is a Benefice Service at Farnham at 10am on Sunday, June 30.

Staveley Garden Party (in aid of All Saints Church): will be held from 2-4.30pm at The Grange in Main Street on Saturday, July 6. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a traditional summer garden party. There will be lots of attractions including music by the Tewit Band, great raffle prizes of £100 cash, hamper, wine and lots more. Children’s competitions, tombola and stalls of all sorts will be present, not forgetting the famous cream teas served by the Staveley Ladies.
