As you all know I write the column well in advance so when you read this you will have had Christmas so I wish you a Happy New Year.

I have just returned from an excellent carol service so Christmas hasnt reached me yet! I went to the Community Carol service being held this year at Starbeck Methodist church. It was a full church and lovely to see so many people there. The service was conducted by Rev Nick from Methodist and Rev Francis from St Andrews. The singing was good and the nativity performed by children from Sundi club was very touching - I’m sure Angel Gabriel was flying she moved so quickly! With modern technology I didnt even need my spectacles as the words to all the carols, both traditional and modern were there on the big screen. A lovely evening to start my Christmas, I look forward to the Christingle service next week at St Andrews - that is so popular that they hold it twice!

St Andrews Advent coffee morning: this was well attended and the winners of the Angel Shop Window competition were given their prizes, nine children spotted all the hidden angels in the twenty shops that took part. The best dressed Angel on the morning was Jessica Banks aged four (and three quarters!). She looked beautiful! I’m sorry I missed the event - I had muddled the dates and attended the week before!

Winter bird watch: this year Starbeck in Bloom are joining with Harrogate Biodiversity group to check up on our winter birds. We will be making feeders and doing a bird spotting trail. Inside there will be hot drinks, a cake stall and activities for the children. This is a free event and gives an opportunity for children to learn about caring for the winter birds and letting off some steam by running about! The event is from 10am-noon at Starbeck library and on Belmont Field on Saturday,January 18. More details in next column.

Tour de France: the meeting is due to be held just before Christmas so in the next column I will tell you the plans for Starbeck.

Starbeck Methodist Concerts: the next concert for fun and fellowship is in Saturday, January11 when Harrogate Male Voice Choir will entertain you.The concerts start at 7.30pm with tickets costing just £6 available on the day.

Starbeck Residents Association: the AGM and presentation of community grants will be held on Thursday, January 30 in St Andrews Welcome Centre at 7.30pm

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas and a Happy New Year to all
