All Saints Church Spofforth: the service on Sunday, June 23 will be holy communion, 1662 version, at 9.30am.

Household Waste: collection at Spofforth will be on Monday, June 24.

Spofforth WI: met on Tuesday, June 11 at The Long Memorial Hall. Mr Peter Fargher gave a talk on plaques on the buildings of Harrogate and showed slides. The competition of a photograph of a blue plaque was won by Joyce Eldred. A vote of thanks was proposed by Annette Young. Unice Cansfield of Follifoot WI gave her report on the Cardiff conference. It was reported that the Summer Market on Saturday, June 8 had been a great success and had raised £417. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 16 when the WI will be hosting their link institute, Gargrave. There will be a ploughman’s supper and a quiz.

A Heritage Trail: was arranged on Sunday, June 9 by Spofforth in Bloom. Those taking part were directed to various village landmarks and asked to answer questions about each site. Anyone who completed the quiz was entered in a draw for a family ticket for the Great Yorkshire Show. The price included barbecue food and a cooling glass of Pimm’s and strawberries and cream could be purchased from the bar. There was a stall showing some excellent photographic items by John Stanley and the pleasant afternoon weather contributed to an enjoyable village occasion.
