Help for Heroes: day at the Castle pub raised over £2,000 thanks to the Bennison family and all those who helped to make it such a successful occasion.
Spofforth Gala: will take place on the Castle Field on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26, starting at 12pm. As well as the now very much established 10k trail run, there will be fairground rides, a bouncy castle, paintball, face painting, tennis and drama demonstrations, morris dancing, a nail parlour, gourmet food stalls, local craft stalls, dog training and display and children’s entertainment. Entry £1, children free. Refreshments will be available in the Long Memorial Hall. Profits from the refreshments in The Long Memorial Hall will go towards the continual refurbishment of the hall and the upkeep of the Ginny Greenholes environmental area and children’s playground. John Stanley: a reminder that John is asking for support and sponsorship for taking part in a memory walk, later this year, in aid of The Alzheimer’s Society. All the money that he raises will go towards people and their families living with dementia. John tells the story of walking with a couple where the husband, who was only 62, had dementia and his sympathy for the wife who had to cope with him with little or no outside support. The walk will take place on Sunday, September 1 at Harewood House and previous to that from August 29 to August 31 John will be walking 55 miles on the Cleveland way from Helmsley to Saltburn. Crime Report: from June 13 to July 14 there was one crime recorded in Spofforth which was undetected at the time of the report. There was a burglary in Church Hill and three suspects had been arrested. Since then, there has been an attempted break in at Grange Avenue and North Yorkshire police have circulated a leaflet in that area advising residents to make sure their houses are secure.
