Crime Figures: from March 15 until April 13 there were three crimes in Spofforth with no detections. There were a sharp increase in burglaries. A premises in Grange Avenue was broken into, car keys stolen and a car driven away. The car was recovered in Northumberland and two suspects were arrested. Since this time period, a second burglary took place in the same road and a handbag was taken containing money, credit cards, an iPad and a mobile ‘phone. It is possible that the thieves were targeting a top of the range car but were unable to locate the keys. The bag was subsequently recovered by a dog walker on Harland Way. Also, two business premises were broken into on Park Lane and a quantity of tools taken from one of them. The police point out the increase in the number of door to door salesman in the area, peddling household products and ask us to report any such incident by dialling 101. Many are operating without a pedlar’s certificate and one has been reported in Huby and his wares have been seized by the police. As usual, the local police can be contacted by dialling 101, 909 if urgent or by email on saferknaresborough@northyorkshirepolice.pnn.police.uk.
