Saturday morning saw a catalogue of postponements at sporting fixtures across Yorkshire, but not at Harrogate Rugby Club.

Although Claro Road was under a blanket of snow early on, the club will stage their massive National Three North showdown with Chester today at 3pm.

After issuing a rallying call for help on Twitter, a large group of volunteers arrived early to clear the pitch, which passed an inspection at 10.30am.

Harrogate currently lead the table ahead of Chester, thanks to having won one game more than their visitors.

But today’s result could effectively decide who will win the automatic promotion place come the end of the season.

Meantime across the Stray at the CNG Stadium, Harrogate Town will not be playing FC Halifax today after the game was postponed yesterday.

A new date will shortly be announced.

Harrogate Railway will also be without a match today after their EvoStik First Division North encounter at Mossley was postponed.

Ripon City and Boroughbridge will try again next weekend to play their West Yorkshire League Cup quarter-final at Mallorie Park, after Ripon woke up to heavy snow today.

Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion’s NCEL Premier battle at Scarborough Athletic will go ahead.
