Sleeping rough in the stands at Harrogate Town

Volunteers are preparing to spend a night sleeping rough in Harrogate to raise awareness and cash for a Youth homelessness charity.

SASH is urging members of the public to join them for the sponsored sleepout in Harrogate event at the Harrogate Town Football Club on Wetherby Road.

Harrogate-based gas supplier CNG has already pledged to support the event which will raise funds for SASH’s ‘Nightstop’ service for vulnerable young people.

CNG managing director Jacqui Hall said: “Homelessness is a problem that none of us should ignore. We want as many people as possible to get behind the event, either in person or through donations to SASH. As a successful, local business we feel it is only right that we support this very worthy cause and we hope to generate greater awareness for this vulnerable pocket in society.”

Nightstop provides emergency accommodation for homeless young people in the homes of local volunteers.

SASH director Peter Robinson said: “Demand for our emergency Nightstop service remains high in Harrogate.

“Thanks to our volunteers we have been able to help, but we rely on fundraising events such as our Sleepouts to ensure we can continue to provide the service to those who need it.”

Sainsbury’s in Harrogate is supporting the event.

The Sleepout will take place from 8pm on Saturday March 22.

Participants will spend the night at the club with no more than a cardboard box and a sleeping bag.
