Organisers of the inaugural Saint Michael’s Star Walk are urging people to sign up today or risk missing out as the closing date for registration draws near.
Registration will close on Sunday, June 9 for the event, which will take place Saturday, June 22 at 8pm and see hundreds of people take to the streets of Harrogate and complete either a 5km or 10km route to raise vital funds for the charity that cares for more than 2,000 local people each year.
Chief executive of Saint Michael’s, Tony Collins, said: “We are really excited about the Star Walk and it is wonderful that so many of our supporters have already got behind the event and signed up to be part of what promises to be a night to remember.
“So far we have a real constellation of stars talking part, old and young, families, groups of friends and local business teams.”
Many will be walking in memory of a loved one or for someone they know who is currently receiving our care. Others are signing up to enjoy the camaraderie a community event like this provides and many more are just wanting to support their local hospice”.
There will be something for everyone on the night, including a choice of two routes, entertainment and giveaways from local business ‘post hosts’ and a star lit picnic at the end of the walk.
The Star Walk will start and finish at St Aidan’s High School, Oatlands Drive, and follow a circular route that takes in many of Harrogate’s favourite landmarks such as the Tewit Well, the war memorial and the Stray. There will also be chance to pause and dedicate a light in memory of loved ones or those receiving Saint Michael’s care at the mid-way point.
The event is sponsored by local financial services provider, Engage Mutual Assurance supported by two media partners, the Harrogate Advertiser and 97.2 Stray FM. Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children under 17. Register online at www.saintmichaelshospice.org, or by contacting Saint Michael’s on 01423 879687 weekdays between 9am and 5pm.
