Service to remember our heroes

Young cadets from 886 Squadron (City of Ripon) Air Training Corps paid tribute to the RAF’s fallen heroes as Battle of Britain week was marked by a service in the city’s Spa Gardens.

The service took place at 11am on Sunday, September 18 and was conducted by Padre Tony Roache, chaplain of 9 Regiment Army Air Corps based at Dishforth Airfield, and Sqn Ldr Mike Chambers.

Music was provided by the Ripon City Band, and the honour guard by personnel from 34 Squadron RAF Regiment from RAF Leeming.

The service also featured a flypast from the Northumbrian University Air Squadron.

It was attended by the mayor of Ripon and other civic dignitaries as well as Grp Captain Innis, commanding officer of RAF Leeming.
