Scotton and Lingerfield
St Thomas Harvest Festival Lunch: more than 30 parishioners enjoyed a sumptuous buffet lunch (a feast no less!) in the village hall on Sunday, October 14 which along with the raffle raised £124 for church funds. Thanks to all those who supported this community event: an important milestone in the church’s calendar when we give thanks for all the hard work of our local farmers in producing our food. Particular thanks are due to Alma and Helen for their support in setting up and to all those who helped out with the washing up afterwards, and to everyone for their generous contributions of savouries and sweets. By general consent it was a most enjoyable occasion.
St Thomas Christmas Fayre: yes it’s only two months away – Christmas is coming and the Christmas Fayre will be held in the village hall on Saturday, November 10 with all the usual attractions of gift stall; children’s toys and books; bric-a-brac; tombola; raffle; home- made cakes and preserves; books; games and sweets not to mention afternoon teas. Doors open at 1.30 pm, so don’t miss out on this popular annual village event.
Scotton Bonfire Night and Fireworks: on the cricket field on Monday, November 5 where in deference to our one-time local resident no effigy of Guy Fawkes is burned on the bonfire, just an empty chair. Fire lighting is at 6.30pm, followed by a fantastic fireworks display with hot refreshments served from the cricket pavilion. Judging by the ever growing crowds in recent years this event is popular well beyond Scotton, so don’t miss it. In consideration to all those who walk there in the dark, please could those arriving by car please park in the Percy Fields car park rather than on the roads which get blocked and are dangerous for the many children on foot.
Droughty Band cancellation: in case you missed the earlier notice the Raise the Roof Ceilidh planned for November 17 is cancelled as the Droughty Band are sadly no longer able to appear due to unforeseen circumstances.
