Save the Guy Fawkes: Harrogate Council decided on April 11 to register the village pub as a Community Asset (the first in the district) under the Localism Act 2012. Particular thanks are due to Lewis Denton for undertaking the work on this and also to the parish council, in whose name the application was made, for their active support. This does not however affect the current purchase of the pub by private buyers, and will only become relevant if the pub is sold again in the future, as it would give the village the opportunity to buy the pub if the community did not approve of the future purchaser. It is understood that the purchase of the Guy Fawkes by Peter Walker and partners is proceeding to exchange of contracts to enable refurbishment work to start soon, and we all look forward to it reopening in the summer. Contrary to my earlier report, Erica Ashmore left for Thailand on April 17 (not end of March) but on behalf of the whole village I want to thank her again for her determined leadership of the save the pub campaign.
Church Services: for Sunday, April 28 the fifth Sunday of Easter, 9.30am Eucharist at St Thomas and 10am at the Methodist Church.
