Table tennis club: there is a new table tennis club for young people in the village aged 12 to 15 which meets in the Methodist Hall on Monday evenings between 7-9pm. So far there are two tables and eight youngsters, and anyone interested in joining should contact Janice Spink on 01423 865055. The young people have yet to agree on a name for the new club – will it become as well-known as Scotton Scorchers?
Church Services: for Sunday, March 17, 5th Sunday of Lent, St Thomas Church 8.30am Holy Communion (Book of Common Prayer) and 10am at the Methodist Church.
Save the Guy Fawkes: 55 people along with Andrew Jones MP attended an open public meeting in the village hall on Saturday, March 2 chaired by Erica Ashmore to receive updates on the HBC Planning Committee and Registration of the pub as a Community Asset: a decision on which is expected by April 11. Erica also announced the setting up of a skills register (IT, accounting, legal etc and also trades such as plumbing and electrical). So if you think you may have any skills to offer along these lines which could help the Guy Fawkes if it is bought by the village, please contact Erica on 01423 862585. Howard Cooper gave feedback on the experience of other community owned pubs, and the principle of a share-owning co-operative set up as a limited company was outlined. Expressions of interest are being sought to buy £500 shares from a minimum of one share to a maximum of 40 shares, but at this stage this does not involve a definite commitment and there is no obligation on anyone. All the committee want to do is to gauge the level of potential support locally for such a share offer if the opportunity for the village to buy the pub arises. Small donations are also welcome (to Erica Ashmore, 1 Hillside Cottages, Main Street) to contribute to a fund to cover current running expenses by the committee.
