Harrogate Rugby Club’s vision of a new home may soon be realised, depending on the outcome of a planning meeting on Tuesday February 26.
Harrogate Borough Council’s planning committee are expected to make a decision on the 28-acre site on Rudding Lane at Follifoot.
Planning officer Mr Hough has recommended the application is approved, subject to a variety of conditions relating to vehicle access and highways.
Harrogate Rugby Club have submitted a petition with over 250 signatures in support of the plans to Harrogate Borough Council.
Despite this, the plan has received several comments opposing the plan on Harrogate Borough Council’s website. Horserider Jenny Cotterill said: “I regularly ride along Rudding Lane and am very worried about the increased volume of traffic that will be using the roads in this area to reach the Club.
“I would also like to add what a negative impact this will have on the Follifoot Park Disabled Riders Group, they are restricted to where they can ride and this proposed site would restrict them even more.”
A club spokesman said: “The club has worked hard to address local authority, highway authority and local residents concerns so as to produce a satisfactory scheme which we hope the committee will support.”
The £3million scheme, funded by the club’s development partners and landlords Crest Nicholson hinges on a planning application for 126 houses at the club’s Claro Road site being granted permission.
Mr Hough has recommended that the committee defer that decision to Head of Planning. See harrogateadvertiser.co.uk for the outcome.
