Ahead of the re-opening of Rossett Sports Centre next month, work is being carried out for its refurbishment.
The remodelling comes just weeks after Harrogate Borough Council (HBC) handed over the keys to Rossett School when their joint management agreement ended last month.
Despite fears the centre would close to the public when the school said it was not able to continue community use, an understanding was reached with HBC including a grant for the refurbishment, which the school has matched with its own funding.
Rossett School headteacher Pat Hunter said: “This is such an exciting development for the school.
“I am really impressed with the transformation in the changing facilities and they aren’t even completed yet. It will be fantastic to open the doors in September and show people what we have done.”
Since the school took over management of the centre contractors have been working to improve the facilities for the new term in September when the public will also have access once more.
The sports centre will remain closed for the rest of August while the work continues, however the 3G pitches are still available for hire.
Head of adult education Malcolm Howe said: “It has been a lot of hard work over the first few weeks but we are keen to make sure nobody is overlooked and as many people as possible are able to keep using the sports centre.
“Our long-term aim is to meet as many community needs as possible, offering a wide range of options to people from across the Harrogate area and beyond.”
Staff are trying to contact centre previous users ahead of the re-opening.
