More than 120 amateur singers from Harrogate will perform two concerts at one of Europe’s leading cultural cities this half term.
Members of Rock Up and Sing! will spend four days in Budapest, performing at the Godollo Royal Palace and the MoM Cultural Centre.
The programme will include worldwide hits by stars including Robbie Williams, Sam Smith, U2, One Republic, James Bay, Alicia Keys and Michael Jackson.
The trip follows a successful visit to Prague in 2014, when the singers earned a standing ovation at the Rudolfinum, the city’s most famous concert hall.
Choir director Rhiannon Gayle said: “The concert in Prague was one of the best we’ve ever done and a really memorable experience for all of us.
“The audiences at the Rudolfinum are used to classical music and tend to be very reserved in their applause, so that standing ovation was absolutely spine-tingling.
“I knew immediately that we’d have to plan another trip.”
As well as the 127 singers from Rock Up and Sing!’s four choirs in Harrogate and Skipton, Rhiannon is taking assistant musical director Andrew Matthews, pianist Katie Bell and percussionist Cherry Bratkowski on the trip.
Rhiannon added: “Andrew, Katie and Cherry are part of the Rock Up family and are involved in many of our UK concerts, so it wouldn’t be right to perform without them.
“We’ve planned in time for sight-seeing and activities as well as the concerts, and I’ve no doubt there will be a few impromptu performances along the way, too.”
Rock Up and Sing! will depart for Prague today (Thursday 27 October), returning on Sunday 30 October.
Meanwhile, a new term begins on Monday 31 October and taster sessions will be run that week for anyone interested in joining one of the choirs.
