A 60-year-old woman from Ripon is in critical condition in hospital after losing control of her bicycle on Saturday March 26.

The incident on Kirkby Road near its junction with Triplins Lane at Azerley, took place at around 1.40pm.

The woman was cycling with another woman heading from Ripon towards Grewelthorpe when she lost control of her bicycle negotiating a bend and fell to the road suffering serious injuries.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended and the woman was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where her condition is currently described as critical.

Police closed the road until 7pm to examine the scene but it is not believed any other vehicle was involved.

Now police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone who saw the two cyclists in the area at the time of the collision to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for Andy MacLeod. Please quote reference 12160052675.
