Ripon Racecourse officially opened its Silks & Saddles bar ahead of an exciting night of action.

George and Ann Duffield officially cut the ribbon before the course’s June 6 meeting.

The building was last refurbished in 1991 and reconstructed to give race goers a unique atmosphere with memorabilia and pictures on the wall.

Trainers who contributed to the new items were Tim Easterby, Micky Hammond, Ann Duffield, John Weymes, Mark Johnston and Elaine Burke with a set of Godolphin silks also sent from Dubai.

George Duffield MBE, one of the most successful flat jockeys to grace Ripon’s track, donated a saddle, whip and boots which has been used as a centre piece in the display.

Attention then turned to the meeting itself with thousands of spectators braving the rain to attend.

The 8.40 SIS Live Maiden Stakes produced the shock of the night when 50-1 outsider, Amaze, stormed to victory.

The 9.10 Ladies Day 21st June Book Now Handicap, was equally exciting, with 7-2 shot Rosairlie, beating favourite Orsippus.
