Grand sale of books, Orwell Prize entries: on Friday, November 1 at North Stainley Village Hall, 5-9pm. We do hope that you will come and be able to buy some, at least, of your Christmas presents; fantastic selection of books to suit all tastes. You will be supporting a good cause, the Roddy Scott Foundation which runs (on a tiny budget) a small English language and IT school in the remote Pankisi Gorge, north eastern Georgia (Caucasus), an area almost entirely peopled by refugees from the wars and troubles in Chechnya on the other side of the High Caucasus mountains and where education, or lack of it, creates many problems.

Ripley Blues: New York musician Eric Bibb plays the Hotel de Ville on Thursday, November 14 in what is something of a coup for the club as Eric usually performs at much bigger venues. Tickets still available at www.ripleylive.com. On Saturday, November 30 the excellent Cherry Lee Mewis Trio will play the upstairs room.
