A £12.4m plan to move Harrogate Council’s offices into old police station has been cast into doubt, after the site was listed.
The authority had voted to move its entire operation to a purpose-built, state-of-the-art centre where the police station currently stands, while selling off its Crescent Gardens offices, along with four other buildings.
That now looks unlikely, after the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport decided to award the North Park Road site a Grade II listing for its architectural value, after a recommendation from English Heritage.
Former Harrogate Council leader Coun Don Mackenzie said the decision was “very disappointing indeed”.
