BUSINESS leaders are staging an 11th hour bid to prevent Tesco’s superstore being built in Harrogate.
Harrogate Chamber of Trade and Commerce is petitioning Government minister Eric Pickles, who will ultimately determine whether planning approval should be granted.
The chamber’s chief executive, Brian Dunsby, said: “This is very much the last chance saloon, but our concerns still remain and they have not been alleviated just because the council has approved the planning application.”
He said the business community in Harrogate was “up in arms”.
Harrogate Council referred its approval of the scheme to Mr Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, after the Health and Safety Executive decided not to call in the decision.
