Cliff Trotter has retained his seat in North Yorkshire County Council for the Pannal and Lower Wharfedale division.

Coun Trotter drew 1,472 votes, with Ukip candidate John Upex behind him with 490.

Coun Trotter spoke to the Harrogate Advertiser series after the announcement.

He said: “It was in the lap of the Gods.

“I do go to all the Parish council meetings, however, I try to represent everybody, whatever party they come from.

“I want to make the roads better, in terms of their condition. This is what I am focussed on, it will be a big issue.

“I am also on the planning committee, so hope to be able to achivee this soon.”

Labour candidate Robert Darlington took 223 votes, and Richard Wilson, of the Green Party, drew 205 votes. The turnout was 34.62 per cent.
