POLICE have confirmed that they will not pursue a criminal investigation into the death of a 76-year-old patient at Harrogate District Hospital.
George Paton, believed to have been a terminally ill cancer sufferer, died at the hospital in the early hours of Saturday, January 8.
North Yorkshire Police had been called in by the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust to investigate the death of the pensioner, who lived in Burnside Walk.
This week they said that following an initial review, and on consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, they have decided not to pursue a criminal investigation.
A spokesman said they will, however, continue to prepare a file for the coroner, adding that the hospital will also be conducting an internal investigation into the circumstances of Mr Paton’s death.
An inquest was opened and adjourned on Friday.
