Pampered pooches rejoice, Harrogate is hosting its very own dog show in May.

Businesswomen Kim Metcalfe and Verity Watts are organising the charity event, which will be staged at Harrogate Rugby Club on May 25.

As it is the first such show many in the town will be able to remember, the organisers are keen to involve as many town businesses and charities as they can.

Looking ahead to the event, Kim, who runs the training and boarding service Pooches Galore, said: “I know there used to be a dog show in Harrogate, but can’t remember there being one recently.

“We have had a great response to the show on Facebook already, lots of people will be there, I am hoping it will be a great day, and that it can become an annual event.”

As part of the stalls and entertainment, which include a dog friendly bar, dog games and trade stands, Kim will perform a dog training demonstration.

And Verity, of Shampooches dog groomers, will be demonstrating her skills for the crowd.

Kim said: “We will have competitions such as waggiest tail and one to find out which dog looks most like its owner.

“It isn’t a pedigree dog show, but there will contests such as best trick.

“We’re even thinking about having a demonstration by some cats, but we’ll have to be careful with it as the room will be full of dogs!”

The idea of the show is to raise as much money as possible for charities the Dogs Trust and the Brathay Trust.

The Brathay Trust aims to improve the life chances of children and young people by encouraging them to get involved in their communities.

Kim said: “We haven’t set a target for money to raise, but the entrance fee of the show of £1 will be donated, and we are just hoping to raise as much as we possibly can.”

Families, and, of course, dogs are invited to the event, which will run from 11am to 4pm (gates 10.30am).

Any business or charity interested in setting up a stall or sponsoring the show can contact Kim on 07919150223 or Verity on 07515 532277.
