Book Sale: at Pateley Bridge Methodist Church on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24. Open 10am-4pm on Saturday and 11.30am-4pm on Sunday. As usual, the room will be packed with books, with a large £1 table and a table of donated books to raise money for Glasshouses Cricket Club. Recent arrivals are a fairly large collection of local interest books, some going back to the 19th century, and a plentiful supply of natural history books. Entry is £1 at the door, which will be deducted from the books you purchase.
George Shackleton memorial: eighty years ago, little George Shackleton was lost at Scar Village. Despite extensive searches by the workmen engaged on Scar Dam, he wasn’t found until too late. The grave of the three-year-old has just been located in Pateley Bridge Cemetery, and the recently-disbanded Former Residents of Scar Village Association are using the remains of their funds to provide a memorial to the little lad. A stone, complete with an image of Scar Dam, has been designed and carved by local stone carver Joe Hayton, and it is to be unveiled in Pateley Cemetery on Saturday, November 23 at noon. Afterwards, there will be a cup of tea and cake at Middlesmoor Village Hall at about 1pm. The Shackleton family would like to invite former members of the Scar Village Association to attend either or both ceremonies. Anyone else with an interest in Scar Village History will also be welcome.
Coffee Morning: on Saturday, November 23, 10am-12.30pm at Margaret Mitchell’s home, Lindisfarne, Wath Road (just up the road from church). You are warmly invited for coffee to support Nidd Chorale’s music fund and the work of Jessie’s fund. There will be cakes, musical games and gifts on sale and a raffle.

Christmas Fair: at Pateley Bridge Methodist Church on Saturday, November 23, 10am-1.30pm. There will be a wide range of stalls so come along and get some early Christmas gifts. Hot lunches will be available.
Christmas Fair: St Cuthbert’s CE Primary School will be holding its Christmas fair on Friday, November 29, 3.30-5.30pm. This is one of the biggest fundraising events of the school year and will be held on a Friday afternoon after school so as not to clash with other events in the town at the weekends. Santa will be in his Christmas grotto and the school choir have been practising some Christmas songs for everyone to enjoy. Children will be allowed to creep into Santa’s secret workshop (no parents allowed) where they can choose a small gift and wrap it in secret for that special person, grown-up or otherwise. There will also be a variety of seasonal stalls and activities including a raffle with fabulous prizes, many of which have been kindly donated by local businesses. Festive refreshments will also be available so please come and enjoy yourselves whilst supporting our wonderful local school. All welcome.
Advent Fair: the Friends of Dacre Braithwaite are having an Advent Fair and Table Top sale at Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall in on Saturday, November 30, 10am-1pm, to raise funds for the PTA. There will be a mixture of crafts on sale, together with raffle, tombola, cake stall, children’s crafts.
Cinema in the Dale: the next film at the Memorial Hall, Pateley Bridge is Lincoln on Saturday, November 30 at 7.30pm. Daniel Day-Lewis gives an award winning performance in the role of US president Abraham Lincoln. The heart of the film is a few weeks in January 1865 in an overcast wintry Washington between Lincoln’s second election and his inauguration. Christmas Fair: the PTFA of Nidderdale High School will be holding their Christmas Fair on Friday, November 22, 5.30-7.30pm in the school hall. There will be a variety of unusual and inspiring stalls to purchase your Christmas presents from, seasonal food and drinks will be served by the PTFA and students so please come along to support your school. St Nicholas Fair: will this year take place on Saturday, December 7, 10am-1pm at the Memorial Hall, Pateley Bridge. There will be gift, cake and plant stalls, tombola, Santa Claus and his favourite elves, and various children’s activities. Mince pies and coffee will be served followed by homemade soup and crusty bread for lunch. This is the main fundraising event for your Parochial Church Council - please bring all your friends and relatives to support this important community event.
