Pannal WI: at the recent meeting on April 9, Trevor Kent gave a fascinating talk on Reading Meters. He started work as a meter reader for the Electricity Board and rose to a senior position, but clearly never lost his sense of humour! The ladies heard many tales from his experiences as a meter reader, some amusing and some poignant. The following day, the ladies displayed their culinary and tea-making skills at the afternoon tea held in aid of the local charity, Dementia Forward. This was very well attended and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the sandwiches, cakes, tea and friendly chatter. The next meeting is on Tuesday, May 14 at 7.30pm at Pannal Memorial Hall, when Avril Jennison of Woolly One-offs will be telling a A Knitter’s Yarn. Visitors are welcome to attend, for a small fee of £3, you never know, you might decide to join!
Christian Aid week: is running from May, 12-18 this year. There will be an afternoon tea at St Robert’s Church on Thursday, May 16 to raise funds. Further details will appear in next week’s column but if you are able to help to serve or to bake cakes and scones for the event, please get in touch with me and I will pass on your details to Andrea who is organising the event. She also needs volunteers to help deliver the magazines so if you have some spare time and would be willing to help, please get in touch.
