Strange and unidentified lights have been spotted in the skies above Harrogate, hovering in the shape of a pineapple.
The curious lights were witnessed by 74-year-old Roy Oprey, of Kielder Oval, who had been unable to sleep in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.
“I looked out of my bedroom window at 4.15am and there were some very strange lights in the sky,” he said.
“They were definitely not Chinese lanterns, where you have one strong light, moving. They were pineapple shaped - all done in a series of lights.
“I kept checking every so often and they were still there, for up to an hour.”
Mr Oprey got out his binoculars and tried to focus on the lights, but they were too far away for him to see.
“It just seemed very strange,” said the retired maintenance man, who worked at the Harrogate International Centre for 20 years.
“I’m not given to believing in UFOs or aliens or anything like that, I’m fairly practical. But it just seemed so peculiar.
“It was the length of time that they were stationary which was most unusual.”
Someone else has come forward to say they too have seen some strange lights in the area.
One woman, from Dallowgill, said she had seen strange ‘orbs’ as big as three-feet in length. She has kept a diary of her encounters and said she saw some strange lights at Scar House Reservoir on July 24.
“I was looking across the sky towards Harrogate,” she said.
“I saw a glistening, star-like orb going east. It was there for about 10 seconds and then it just vanished.
“It had to have been big for me to have seen it, as it was several miles away.”
People on Twitter were more sceptical about the origin of the lights, Sean Parker saying it was a shame Mr Oprey wasn’t carrying a camera phone.
“I hope people aren’t confusing the sun with a UFO,” added Sophie Lord.
“I know it’s been a while since we’ve seen it like this...”
