An exciting two-part TV series is being filmed in Harrogate to proudly showcase to the nation, and the world, how our town celebrates Christmas.

The Harrogate at Christmas Group, who have organised and secured funds for the Christmas lights over the last decade, have been working closely with award-winning TV production company Daisybeck Studios, behind the likes of the hit Channel 5 series The Yorkshire Vet, to make the venture happen.

Filming will start as soon as next week to capture the earlier planning stages of Harrogate's festive events.

Coun John Fox, Chairman of the Harrogate at Christmas Group, said: “As part of the Harrogate Christmas TV series, the producers are keen to feature our Christmas shop window competition.

"Their aim is to capture the planning, design and actual decoration and installation of the windows as a way into the hard work and dedication that goes into putting on an enriching experience for shoppers and visitors to Harrogate.

"The programme will also pay tribute to the town as it encourages people to get off the internet shopping sites and go to where a real festive Christmas experience is taking place.”

Harrogate's Christmas market, which attracts thousands of visitors every year to the town, will also be captured by TV crews, as well at the big lights switch-on, Harrogate Theatre's Christmas pantomime, and Harrogate College's festive sculpture.

The team at Daisybeck Studios are looking to compile a list of retailers entering the Christmas Shop Window Competition this year. They are encouraging businesses thinking of taking part to let the Harrogate at Christmas Group know that they are willing to be contacted by Daisybeck Studios, discuss the programme further, and their potential involvement.

Paul Stead, Managing Director of Daisybeck Studios said, “As a proud Yorkshire based production company, we’re always looking at ways of celebrating the life of the best region in Britain.

"Following the success of The Yorkshire Vet, we’re now looking forward to capturing Christmas in Harrogate and showing the rest of the country what is so magical and special about the town and why they should come and see for themselves.

"Members of the TV production team will be visiting Harrogate in late May and would welcome the chance to talk to anyone who is interested in getting involved with the Christmas Shop Window competition and the programme. If you would like to discuss this further, please email Sarah Allen, TV Producer – sarah.allen@daisybeckstudios.com or you can call her on 0113 204 5922 as soon as possible.”

Coun Fox said: “Daisybeck Studios has a proven track record in the region and it goes without saying that this two part series, screened in the run up to Christmas this year, will be very good for Harrogate’s economy.

"Filming in Harrogate will start very soon, so please make contact with me (cllrjohn.fox@ntlworld.com) as soon as possible.

"The programme will be an entirely positive view of Harrogate and Daisybeck Studios production team will be working very closely with me, the Harrogate at Christmas Group, the Harrogate Rotary Club, Soroptimist International Harrogate and District, Harrogate Borough Council, retail groups and individual stores to ensure that they capture an accurate and celebratory portrait of Christmas in Harrogate."
