When Harrogate developer 4Urban’s plans were first unveiled the rumour was that it would be a Curzon independent cinema which was coming to Harrogate.

But cinema-goers were excited to learn that Everyman was to open a five-screen cinema in the £10 million complex.

This week the Everyman cinema’s website said: “Everyman is excited to arrive at Harrogate. We will be opening the doors to our unique five screen venue in September.

“The broad programme will include a diverse range of films coupled with an array of exclusive live events and we will be serving our usual selection of great food and drink.”

The popular Everyman chain is best known for swapping the traditional cinema seat and popcorn in favour of comfy sofas and pizzas.

It had been hoped originally that Everyman would be ready to open by Christmas 2015, and then for Easter 2016 but the fact the company is holding the ‘show round’ day on Thursday, August 11 means the opening date is just round the corner.
