HARROGATE’s mayor and mayoress joined members of Supporting Older People as the group went on its annual outing to RHS Gardens Harlow Carr.
Every year, the gardens offers free entrance and the use of its learning centre as it provides tea for members of the charity.
Around 50 people attended this year’s event, including guests from Age Concern and Applegarth Homes - and they were joined by Coun Les and Christine Ellington.
Volunteers provided cakes for tea, transport to and from individuals’ homes, and support escorting visitors around the grounds.
The Happy Wanderers bus also provided transport for many guests.
Supporting Older People aims to tackle issues of loneliness and isolation in older people living on their own.
The charity, which finds volunteers to visit older people in their homes and runs monthly outings and tea afternoons, celebrates 30 years of community work in the region next year.
