Man to go on trail for death of footaball fan

A man is due to go on trial today, Monday, January 10, accused of the manslaughter of a football fan who was attacked outside a pub following England's first match in last summer's World Cup.

Robert Wilson, 44, died in hospital 11 days after he was seriously injured outside the Skyrack, on St Michael's Road in Headingley, Leeds, on June 12, following the match between England and the USA.

Mr Wilson, of West Park, Leeds, suffered serious head injuries when he was punched to the ground by another man, police said at the time.

He died in Leeds General Infirmary on June 23.

Christopher Perry, of Shadwell Walk, Moortown, Leeds, was charged with Mr Wilson's manslaughter and is due to go on trial today at the city's crown court
