Man suffers serious head injury in Harrogate car smash

A man suffered a serious head injury following a car smash in Harrogate which led to Leeds Road being shut for almost six hours yesterday morning.

The man, aged in his 20s, was driving his black MG ZR when it hit a blue Skoda near St Marks Church on the A61 at around 5.30am.

He was travelling from Leeds towards Harrogate town centre when his car hit the Skoda and then crashed into a tree.

He remains in a stable condition in Harrogate Hospital.

A silver Mercedes was damaged after being hit by debris from the collision, which saw police close the road and divert traffic until 11.15am.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw any of the cars prior to the incident to contact them with information.
