A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a crash with a cyclist in Pateley Bridge.

The woman pedestrian, aged in her 60s, was knocked off her feet by the crash at 2.20pm today (Tuesday).

Police say she suffered serious head injuries which are described as life-threatening. She is being treated at Harrogate District Hospital.

The cyclist, an 18-year-old man who was riding a blue racing bike in the direction of Summerbridge, suffered a cut to his right elbow.

Pateley Bridge High Street has been completely closed to traffic and cordoned off as police investigate.

Diversions are in place. Transdev Harrogate says the 15.40pm bus service out of Pateley Bridge is currently stuck but the Birstwith return journey is running as normal.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses.
