Famous faces have been creating a frenzy in Harrogate as the great and good of the sporting world arrive in town.
Social media went into meltdown yesterday when David Beckham was reportedly spotted in Harrogate.
Rumours that the world famous superstar enjoyed a kick about in the Valley Gardens followed by a fat rascal in Bettys spread like wild fire online, with over 150 posts on Facebook.
The former footballer was trending on Twitter in Harrogate after clever fans made mock up photos of Beckham eating cake and running through the Valley Gardens in just his pants.
A spokesperson for Bettys said: “I am sorry we cannot confirm or deny David Beckham’s visit to our Harrogate Cafe Tea Rooms. At Bettys we have many famous faces come through our doors but we are careful to make sure that all our customers enjoy the same efficient and discrete service.
“We expect to welcome many more customers, celebrities included, over the Tour de France weekend.”
Bus loads of professional cyclists started arriving at Hotels across the town on Monday.
Simon Cotton, general manager at the Cedar Court Hotel welcomed Russian Team Katusha, Australian ORICA-GreenEDGE and French Team COFIDIS.
He said: “The excitement has stepped up now that the teams have started to arrive.”
Rudding Park were preparing to welcome Team Sky yesterday, tweeting @MarkCavendish and @ChrisFroome to tell them: “We look forward to welcoming you.”
The German cyclist expected to give Cavendish a run for his money at the finish line, Marcel Kittel, took to Twitter yesterday and said: “Yorkshire, I’m coming! The Tour starts soon. I’m excited like a little boy.”
