“A beautifully presented and smartly appointed ground floor stand alone studio apartment with huge garden overlooking the Stray.

“Enviably located on one of Harrogate’s most prestigious sections of The Stray, superbly placed within easy reach of the town center,” says the seller’s description of Harrogate’s newest “des-res”.

But this sought-after property will melt away with the snow currently covering the district – it is an igloo built by an enterprising Harrogate group, and now for sale on ebay with all the proceeds going to Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The igloo was built yesterday, Monday, January 21, by Harrogate men Greg Davies, Carl Baranovsky, Mark Baranovsky, Craig Parker and Tom Davies.

Greg said: “We’ve built them in the past and thought we’d build a big one. Carl and I started at 9.30am and the others joined us throughout the day.

“We came up against a few risks along the way – children with no building skills, dogs with yellow snow making capabilities and the paparazzi but we battled on and completed it at 6.30pm.

“Then when we’d finished we realised what a perfect location it was in. Craig suggested we place it on ebay for a bit of fun and that any money raised we could donate to charity. Yorkshire Cancer Research is our charity of choice and we just hope we can get this out there so we can raise some money for YCR.”

The friends opened an auction for the igloo with a starting price of 99p at around 8.30pm on Monday, and 18 hours later the price had risen to £200 despite a warning on the auction page that “although you are bidding for this Igloo be mindful that it will melt in warmer weather and there is no legal ownership of The Stray. You are welcome to move the Igloo at anytime.”

Bid for the igloo on Ebay here The team have also set up an online giving site for people who want to donate instead of bidding on the igloo.
