Stunned onlookers have hailed the atmosphere as Harrogate prepares for the Stage One finish on West Park.
The town has been setting up for the big finish for more than 18 months, and thousands are packing the finish line to get a look at Cavendish, Froome et al.
Harrogate man Rob Stanworth said: “I set off from Leeds this morning on my bike and cycled to Harrogate, stopping along the way to watch in Arthington.
“It is an absolutely amazing experience to see 200 bikes pass by in the space of 20 seconds.
“The buzz here in Harrogate tops it all.
“The amount of people here just shows what an amazing event it is. Harrogate is a small town doing a bit city’s job, and doing it rather well!
“The open spaces on the Stray were almost made for this.”
North Yorkshire Police Chief Constable Dave Jones said: “I have met with emergency services at Harrogate police Station, and we want to thank forces from as far away as Northumberland and Durham who have come to be on duty today.
“I must admit, I’m really looking forward to seeing the race and the atmosphere is really building.
“Everybody is having a great time, and there have been no major incidents - only bumps and grazes.”
