Preparations are underway for one of the most family-friendly agricultural events of the year - the Ripley Show.

The traditional agricultural show, boasting something on offer for everyone, is to be held this Sunday, August 10.

Great crowds are expected to attend and organisers are hopeful that the weather stays warm to welcome them.

“Everybody is busy, getting it all set up,” said committee member Kate Smith.

“The forecast isn’t brilliant, but we are hopeful! And the show field is in very dry condition, so even the odd shower wont affect it much.”

The show day, held in the Ripley Castle Park, will see a host of traditional and more modern events.

There will be carriage driving, vintage machinery, tractors and classic cars, as well as a sheep show, terrier racing, dog agility, and a companion dog show.

Traditional events like the sheep dog trials, stone walling and farriery, as well as a parade of hounds, will draw crowds, as will all the agricultural events from cattle, sheep and pigs, heavy horses, decorated horses, jumping and pony classes, driving, handicraft and horticulture.

There will be a food marquee and public bar, trade stands and as a farmers market.

Main ring entertainment will include performances from Atkinson’s High School Stallions and the 4 Team Fly Ball with Arthur - said to be the fastest whippet in the area.

Music will be provided by the Summerbridge and Dacre Band, and for children there will be amusements, bouncy castles and donkey rides.

“There’s so much for everybody to see, in such lovely surroundings,” said Ms Smith.

Ripley agricultural Show is to be held in Ripley Castle Park this Sunday, August 10. Car parking is free, tickets cost £8 for adults, £6 for concessions, £4 for children and under 5s go free. Schedules and timetables are available now from Birchwood Farm, Ripley, on the A61, or for more information visit the website at www.ripleyshow.co.uk.
