Letter: Tourism - Disappointed by lack of Dales info

Pateley Bridge

When visiting Pateley Bridge recently it was very disappointing to discover that the Tourist Information office on the High Street has apparently closed for good. What a shame.

As a regular visitor to the area over the years I thought it provided an excellent service.

The staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and full of enthusiasm for this lovely part of the world. My wife and I also bought maps, guides and other books about the area.

From asking around I am told that the full-time staff have gone and tourist information now appears to consist of little more than a leaflet rack in the library which has been relocated away from the High Street to secondary location in the town.

I know that councils have to make cutbacks but can’t help but think this closure is a very ill-judged decision.

Not only that but Pateley Bridge High Street now has two more empty shops units which must be a cause of concern to other retailers in the town.
