I was very sorry to read about the man who was knocked down at the traffic lights on Station Parade.
If these were the upper traffic lights which lead into the bottom of the bus station, he must have tried to cross before the sequence said it was safe to cross.
These lights have a sequence which is constant.
When the lights are green it is safe to cross.
When the lights change to red, stop because traffic is coming from Cheltenham Parade (CP).
When the traffic from CP stops, stay because the traffic from Station Parade (SP) will come.
When the traffic from SP stops, it is safe to cross because it will be green again.
This is the way I cross and I have never had any difficulties in following the sequence.
All the other traffic lights will have a sequence which most people would be able to work out.
The main point to learn is that it is not safe to cross anywhere unless the lights are green or there is no traffic within a reasonable distance.
Traffic coming from CP is so fast that the early birds could be at the traffic lights before a pedestrian realises.
Be warned and keep safe.
