A card shop in Knaresborough Market Place has made it to the final five in search for the best greeting card retailer in the North of England and Northern Ireland.

Rachael Barnes turned her back on corporate office life seven years ago to follow in her mother’s footsteps opening Dragonfly Cards and Gifts in Knaresborough Market Place.

She said: “My mum had a card shop in Wetherby years ago that I helped out in.

“I worked in marketing for a few years but that just wasn’t me being stuck in an office all day.”

The decision has certainly paid off as Dragonfly Cards and Gifts has made it into the final five in the search for the best card retailer in the North of England and Northern Ireland.

“We are the only shop in Yorkshire to be in the final five.

“I think the difference with us an other shops is that we have the personal touch. I choose all of the cards for the shop myself and we offer good customer service.

“Some of our customers need help choosing a card and I really enjoy helping them.”

Rachael has no regrets with her choice of business.

“I love the greetings card business, we get to know our customers so well and celebrate the important occasions in their life with them.

“Their engagements, weddings, thank you cards, birthdays and babies.

“Cards make up around 80 per cent of the business, and I try to choose gifts that would be nice impulse presents for people.”

Rachael and her mum, will be traveling to London for the Great Gatsby themed competition final at the Dorchester Hotel on July 10.
