The Grandest Depart, an artistic photography journal documenting 12 months of cycling in Yorkshire – was launched at Harewood House.

More than 50 guests attended to view the work of Harrogate photojournalist Jude Palmer, creator of the book and official behind-the-scenes photographer for the Grand Départ Yorkshire 2014.

Jude Palmer was joined in speeches on the evening by Gary Verity, CEO of Welcome to Yorkshire – the tourism agency commissioned the book to showcase the work of the region in delivering the Grand Départ – and Peter Morris, Partner at Irwin Mitchell solicitors, sponsors of the book.

Jude said: “I am thrilled that the book launch at Harewood House was such a success.

“A brilliant way to top off 12 months of hard work – myself and the creative team at The Lift Agency are as proud as punch with the final result.”

Other guests at the event included 8th Earl of Harewood David Lascelles, Thierry Gouvenou, sports director of the Tour de France, Bob Howden, president of British Cycling, and the Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Jim Clark.

Each guest received their own copy ofJude’s reportage-style photo journal at the champagne reception.

In September 2013 Jude was commissioned by Welcome to Yorkshire to capture the build-up to the arrival of the world’s largest cycling event.

She collaborated with Harrogate’s creative studio, The Lift Agency, on the special project, and Yorkshire PR firm Cicada Communications managed Jude’s PR and events.

The Grandest Depart will be gifted by Welcome to Yorkshire to cycling royalty, Grand Départ supporters, and people who were influential in the bid to bring the event to the region.

It is hoped that the book will be available for public sale before Christmas.
