HSO quartet to play 1966 pop classics in exclusive art gallery event

Harrogate Symphony Orchestra is joining in an evening of Pop Art, talk, beer and live psychedelic rock music at a Harrogate gallery and historic Harrogate club.

Its's string quartet are special guests at RedHouse Originals gallery when two insiders of music and art will unveil their first-hand accounts of Paul McCartney and Jagger and Richards next Saturday, July 30 at 4.30pm.

The exclusive event, called Spirit of 66, may be the closest fans will get to knowing what it was like to be in the world’s greatest rock groups in the Swinging Sixties at the time of classic albums like Revolver and singles Paint it Black.Featuring an exclusive talk with London-based music biographer/NME legend Chris Salewicz plus Pop Artist Dudley Edwards, a founder member of BEV, this Swinging London design collective famously painted the Cobra car for The Beatles' friend Tara Browne in 1966 whose death in a tragic accident inspired the track A Day In The Life on Sgt Pepper.

Edwards himself also designed Paul McCartney's psychedelic piano, living with the ex-Beatle at the height of the Sixties.

    Providing a backdrop for the talk will be the HSO quartet who will perform renditions of Eleanor Rigby and other classic 1966 songs.

    Also performing will be renowned beatnik poet/musician Heath Common.

    The Spirit of 66 event will take place at 4.30pm fifty years to the day since England’s World Cup triumph.As well as the literary panel, Spirit of 66 will also feature a new exhibition of Swinging Sixties photos, World Cup 1966 pictures and Pop Art.

    The event will then move at 8.30pm to Harrogate’s most historic venue - The Club - for the climax - a live psychedelic gig by Leeds band The Chessmen.A strictly limited number of tickets with a free Roosters beer are on sale now at www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk
