A 19-year-old Knaresborough student has raised £3,591 for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
George Mulryan, a musical theatre student, organised a concert at The Crown Hotel, Harrogate, on Saturday, September 1.
There were performances from Elisha Ainsley, Claire DeBolloy and Christian Lunn, a jazz band and concert band led by Dave Hughes, with performers from France and Ireland.
More than 200 people attended and the event has been heralded as a huge success. Beth Organ from Knaresborough said: “The quality of the two bands was outstanding and had everyone on their feet. But the triumph of the night was that we were not allowed to forget why we were there.”
George wanted to raise the funds to thank Martin House for the help and support they gave his half cousin, Matthew Roberts, who had suffered from muscular dystrophy before his death earlier this year aged 17.
George’s mother Sue Mulryan said: “Matthew was going to be with us on the night but sadly passed away on August 22. This made us more determined to raise as much as we could to say ‘thanks’ on his behalf.”
The Crown Hotel gave the room free of charge local businesses donated raffle and auction prizes.
