Harrogate District Hospital got into the festive spirit last week and switched on their Christmas lights.

Children from St Robert’s Catholic Primary School joined the MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough Andrew Jones and Hospital chairman Sandra Dodson for the switch-on of the Christmas lights.

The children sang Christmas carols and, as has become traditional, the MP and chairman pressed the button to illumiate the hospital reception last Friday.

Hospital Chaplains Rev Tim Parker and Father Jim Leazy read prayers and led blessings.

Head of communications Chris Watt said: “The children sang wonderfully and staff from all different departments across the hospital came down for the lights switch-on.

“It was a very festive occasion and something I know people at the hospital look forward too.”

Lucky the Donkey also made a rather loud appearance at the event.

Despite the fact the farm yard animal was already getting quite a lot of attention just for being in the hospital, Lucky decided he wasn’t being paid quite enough attention and shouted for more.

The donkey eeyored his way through several Christmas carols, almost drowning out the children’s singing.

Lucky then loudly interupted Rev Tim Parker’s prayer.

Mr Watt said: “Lucky the donkey certainly made quite an appearance.

“Everyone comes down to the reception excited. It is one of the highlights of the hospital calendar.”
