The efforts of a group of runners from Harrogate will help pay for a much-needed break for the growing number of people in Yorkshire who look after a loved one.

Runers Fran Tagg, Simon Cotton, Stewart Owen, Mark Sanderson and Debs Lester joined Skipton team Chris and Steve Pugh, and Sam Boatwright to run the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon to raise £6,300 in aid of Harrogate and Ripon charity, the Carers’ Resource.

Carers’ Resource Events and Fundraising Coordinator Anne Wells said: “The money will be used to give both adults and young carers the chance to escape the day-to-day stress and pressures they face looking after a family member or friend.

“It will help fund everything from short breaks to pamper days – something which we know makes a huge and positive difference to their own health and well-being.”
